2004
Born Guifi·net.
Un social and technological data network project a la comarca d'Osona (Catalunya) amb la voluntat de resoldre les dificultats d'accés a Internet de banda ampla a les zones rurals, fruit del desinterès de lesoperadorestradicionals en voler connectar aquests buits de cobertura.
Un grup de veïns i neighbors van decidir autoorganitzar-se de manera voluntària començar a connect les seves cases, granges, empreses o edificis públics a través d'una xarxa de radioenllaç. Interconnectant, doncs, diversos punts geogràfics per poder tenir accés a Internet a través del què anomenarien Xarxa de Comuns Oberta, Lliure i Neutral.
The project grew, adding people and companies that would make the network grow. They installed antennas, provided technical support, shared internet and/or connected to the network.
2007
El projecte rep el National Telecommunications Award de la Generalitat de Catalunya.
2008
Neix la Guifi· Foundationnet thanks to a group of network usersGuifi·net que van decidir organitzar-se formalment i give legal entity to the project per tal de poder promoure la xarxa arreu del territori a través d'una infraestructura híbrida (radioenllaç i fibra òptica) en igualtat de condicions per a totes les persones. En definitiva, fer arribar l'accés a Internet per eliminar la bretxa digital entre zones urbanes i rurals.
2009
Degut al constant growth del projecte, tant en nombre de network users, installing companies, d'operators que ofereixen Internet access services, d'entities, associations, volunteers, com d'administracions, la Xarxa de Comuns Oberta, Lliure i Neutral Guifi·netsets up governance systems i coordination orientats a la transparència, al manteniment, a la millora de la infraestructura i a la gestió d'aquesta com a Bé Comú.
2015
El projecte rep el European Commission Broadband Award en la categoria de innovative model of financing, business and investment.
2019
The project Guifi·netcelebrates its 15th anniversary with a consolidated radio link network throughout the territory and with many fiber extension projects through collaboration between different participants who make up the Guifi· Foundationnet
Currently
The project remains consolidated and continues to grow throughout the State. From the Guifi· Foundationnet continuem treballant per:

Promote the Human Right (UN, 2011) to access the Internet in society without any kind of discrimination and with the aim of eliminating the digital divide.

Promote the Commons, Open, Free and Neutral Telecommunications Network through coordination mechanisms in collaboration with internet service providers, installers, entities, associations, administrations, volunteers and network users of the Guifi·net.

Promote a social and collaborative economic model through local operators.
