Commons Network
A telecommunications infrastructure in a common good format
We facilitate l'accés a Internet a través de la construction d'una xarxa de telecomunicacions mancomunada, oberta, lliure i neutral. Ja sigui a través d'aportacions, inversions per estendre la xarxa o connexions d'usuaris.
The principles of the Guifi·net Network:
Open
Any person can access and connect without discrimination
Free
Those who connect can carry out economic, social, cultural activities, contribute content or simply exchange it .
Neutral
We ensure no interference from any public or private entities in the content and technology used.
The Commons Network of Guifi·net, both fiber optic and radio links, is an infrastructure in a common good format and, therefore, we manage and share it among all users, service operators, entities or administrations that want to promote its growth. Always under equal conditions and for the benefit of all those who want to use it.
Through the Commons Network:
We defend the human right of access to the Internet as a basic tool for action and social inclusion.
We eliminate the digital divide between urban and rural areas and facilitate access to the information and communication society.
We promote social, local and collaborative economy. We support the development of local operators offering internet services.
Economic model
System of Compensations Our economic model is based on a system of compensations that aims to manage the human and material resources of the network to satisfy the participants' needs fairly and equitably, based on a collaborative model that allows contribution based on each participant's use.
At the same time, it encourages investment in shared telecommunications infrastructures and enables a fair return, both economically and socially. The system is structured around the Compensation Tables, in which the different actors involved participate.
Objective criteria for maintenance and improvement of the network are applied to the Compensations, making the management of the telecommunications infrastructure as a common resource efficient and effective.
There are three levels of compensation:
-
IX Compensation
-
CAPEX Compensation
-
OPEX Compensation

What do we offer?
Internet
The guifi·net telecommunications network is structured through the activation of Points of Presence (PoP,Points of Presence) es vertebra mitjançant l'activació de punts de presència (PoP,Points of Presence)al territori, interconnectats com a punts neutres d'interconnexió a Internet (IX,Internet eXchange).
The guifi·net PoPIX are open to the participation and interconnection of all telecommunications operators offering telecommunications services in the area where they are located. net estan oberts a la participació i interconnexió de tots els operadors de telecomunicacions que ofereixen serveis de telecomunicacions a la zona on estan situats.
They are open to all operators on equal terms and all operators can join and interconnect to the guifi·net PoPIX
It is possible to activate new PoPIX in different areas and interconnect them with existing ones through fiber optic trunk links. It is also possible to integrate existing points to be part of the model, generating an improvement due to the economies of scale that benefits all participants and the territory.
The network of Neutral Access Points to Internet distributed in the territory promotes and improves access to telecommunications and to high-speed, next-generation Internet, and is a driver of local economy activation.
