What is Zuntz Optikoa Zumaia (ZOZ)?
Zuntz Optikoa Zumaia (ZOZ) is an initiative promoted by the Zumaia council in collaboration with the Guifi·net Foundation to install a fiber optic network in the municipality of Zumaia. This network will reach all homes, businesses, entities, and companies that wish, regardless of their location.
What is a shared network?
In conventional models, the network is in the hands of a single operator who exploits and benefits from it. In contrast, a shared network is an infrastructure used as a Common Good. Therefore, it has management mechanisms that prevent anyone from appropriating it.
With this model, there is an open, free, and neutral network that is used by several operators, increasing the offer. In addition, it is more sustainable, as infrastructure is not duplicated.
How is it guaranteed that the network is neutral?
The Guifi·net Foundation ensures that the network can be used under equal conditions by any operator who wants to offer their services. It also ensures that good commercial and management practices are applied, resolving possible conflicts between operators.
What speed does the fiber optic network offer?
We offer a maximum of 1,000 Mbps symmetrically expandable in the future. That is, up to 1 Gbps symmetrically. A figure that more than covers the needs of any user.

Can I choose the operator?
Yes, it is the users who decide which operator to trust and which offers they like the most.
Is there a mandatory commitment?

How will the fiber optic be implemented?
We will do it in phases. We start from the lighthouse towards the historic center, and from there to the rest of Zumaia, including Narrondo, Artadi, and Oikia.
