Frequently asked questions
The Fiber Optic Network of the Vall d'Ollo and the Cendea d'Olza (Navarra) is an initiative promoted by the Town Councils of the Vall d'Ollo and the Cendea d'Olza with the collaboration of the citizens and the Guifi·net Foundation. Currently, four local operators offer Internet access services with fiber optic and fixed and mobile telephony: Abaila, Evel, Sisnet and Wikai.
As a consequence of the refusal of the large operators to provide a broadband telecommunications network, of quality, fast and that offers the necessary connection services to develop professional and personal tasks in the 21st century, the initiative to promote and deploy a network arises as an alternative to the large operators, providing Internet through shared fiber optic in a sustainable way and at affordable prices for each of the homes and businesses.
Currently, the towns that have joined the initiative are:
-
Vall d'Ollo:
-
Cendea d'Olza:
Unlike conventional models, where the network is owned by a single operator who deploys and operates it at the same time, a shared network is an infrastructure that is used as a common good: it belongs to all those actors who have invested in it and use it. In addition, it is managed through a series of mechanisms that ensure and prevent it from being appropriated, as is the case with the management of communal meadows or forests.
This model has advantages such as:
-
Having an open, free and neutral network.
-
Sharing the same network with multiple operators (monopoly is avoided).
-
It is more environmentally sustainable because infrastructure is not duplicated.
-
Costs are reduced.
-
Users can choose from different commercial operators.
-
Preventing business with the infrastructure.
We offer a maximum of 1,000 Mbps symmetrically expandable in the future. That is, up to 1 Gbps symmetric. This figure covers the needs of any user.
In case of doubt, you can ask for advice from your operator.
The Guifi·net Foundation ensures that the network can be used under the same conditions by any operator who wants to offer services. In addition, it ensures that good commercial and management practices are applied, as well as the resolution of possible conflicts between operators.
Yes, users are the ones who decide which operator to trust and which offers they like the most. In addition, you can switch to any participating operator of the network whenever you want, because there are no permanences.
